Teachables Educational Store

Small Business Spotlight

By Maria Ellis March 2, 2024

Teachables is an Educational Supply Store locted at 10302 Bristow Center Dr. in Bristow, near Harris Teeter. This little store has so much to offer! I talked with Jennifer, the owner, who had lots to say about the store. Here is more about our Small Business Spotlight, Teachables:

What is the story behind your business? How did you get started?

I was an elementary teacher for almost 12 years. We were a military family stationed in North Carolina. Teaching there was great and one of the best resources we had was a great teacher store. When the Air Force moved us to the Northern Virginia area I began teaching again. Year after year I watched myself and other teachers struggle and craft things together or do without because there wasn’t a teacher supply store close by.  I’ve often, like many teachers, come up with different and creative ways to help students understand the material. Hands-on learning materials are amazing at connecting the dots of curriculum. I wanted that for our area. I wanted students to enjoy learning and I wanted teachers to feel prepared and confident in the lessons they needed to teach. With that in mind we set out to create Teachables.

What does your business offer its customers?

We have a variety of classroom decorations, educational posters, games and aides to help create the most inspiring classroom. We also carry supplemental materials for students of all ages, learning styles, and methods, whether in a traditional classroom, homeschooling, hybrid or anything else. Our educational toys, puzzles, and puppets are often a big hit as well.

What are some fun facts about you or your business?

Teachables hold free kids events, such as storytime, sensory play, science experiments, craft days and more. We also laminate large items to protect the things you buy from us and create at home. We’re home to a few local vendors that craft items that educators love, like teacher earrings, t-shirts, home accents, as well as books from local children’s authors.

We’re a fun fundraiser spot and we collect gently used or new clothes for children through a local organization called Boxes of Basics.

What are you most proud of?

Honestly, what I love the most is when we see we helped someone. We get a lot of customers, especially parents wanting to know how to help their child in a learning area. When we can provide wisdom and helpful ideas, it’s a good day.

Do you have special offers for Macaroni KID subscribers?

MK subscribers can 25% OFF any one item in the store. Excludes lamination and handmade goods.

We hope to see you soon at Teachables!
